As we sell some products that
seem very similar, we thought it best to have a few notes to assist you
in which unit you should choose as we get asked a lot, "Which is better, A, B, C or D?".
So here are the things that you should consider when choosing a GPS, since the performance
difference is negligible for general navigation, and all our units are IP65 waterproof rated. We only sell
units that are are of the highest quality, and do not view Australia as a dumping ground for
some of the "rubbish" devices that are available.
So the question is if our TS-GUM004 or TS-GPM008 or TS-GPM009 is better and which should you choose?
Well, sorry to say, we can't really answer that for you as it really depends on your future
needs. If you will only ever need USB connectivity, then our TS-GUM004 unit is most likely
the best for you as it has less points of failure in terms of connections, no interface
adapters, just a fixed USB plug.
However, if you think down the track you may need RS-232, intend to purchase
or already own a PocketPC PDA device, then our TS-GPM008 or TS-GPM009 are the better way to go as they have many available connectivity options, such as;
- iPaq models 22xx/36xx/37xx/38xx/39xx/470x/3715/Hx/Rx/Rz/H5550
- Jornada models 520/525/540/545/547/548/560/564/565/567/568
- O2-XDAII (not O2XDA IIi)
- Dell Axim X3
- Dell Axim X50v
If you purchase our TS-GPM008 or TS-GPM009 device, all
you need to do is purchase an additional interface cables and you can use the
same GPS receiver with all these host devices. Beware though, we may not
stock all the listed adapter cables in the future as user demands change as
new models are released.
As far as the performance issue, 12 channels is more than adequate, 20 is just
a bonus, you only need 4 channels for a location fix and general navigation.
Both units perform extremely well, so no
comparison is warranted for general car or boat navigation work. Both can be
placed outside a car or vessel. The choice is all about needs preference or
performance.
I hope that helps, but as you can see it all depends on your future needs.

As we are a supplier who sells or has sold devices with all the chipsets listed,
we have no bias or preference in the test results. |
